100 Years Of Ranching - The Nevada Centennial Club
Both personally and professionally, I am drawn to people that display a sense of brutal honesty in their words and actions. It takes a lot of courage to simply live your life doing something you love.
Enter the Nevada Centennial Ranch Program, facilitated by the USDA and the Agricultural Council of Nevada. To be inducted into this program a ranch must be in the same family for 100 years or more - which is no small feat in this day and age.
Through this program I met and visited five ranching families across the state of Nevada. At each ranch I spent a day documenting these folks as they branded cattle, corralled horses, mended broken fences and tackled anything else the job entailed. At the end of the day I captured the portraits of these hard working families before they cleaned up for dinner.
Richard Avedon's series In The American West has always been a favorite of mine and my technique shooting these portraits was a nod to this American master. This story ran as the feature in Nevada Magazine.
