Sunrise on Mount Shasta
Mount Shasta, California
At 14,179 feet, Mount Shasta is one of the most impressive mountains in California. In May of 2009, a few friends and I decided to climb the mountain and do a ski and snowboard descent from the summit. The climb took us two days and all of our energy. This shot was taken at sunrise on the second day of our climb on the Hotlum-Wintun Ridge on the north side of the mountain. We were climbing for five hours at this point and were several thousand feet above our base camp. Right around noon that day we reached the summit and enjoyed a 7000 ft descent to the valley floor. It is one of the best backcountry descents I have ever done.
